Laying a Foundation

pillarsThere are a number of different ways the bible talks about the work of a pastor, one of them is the idea of a builder laying a foundation. (Rom 15:20) The point being is that life is going to be filled with all sorts of storms and calamities, the question is, on what or on whom is your life being built? Faithful preaching of the Word of God, Sunday after Sunday, is aimed, at least in part, at laying a firm foundation of truth in the hearts and minds of those who listen to it.

Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. – Luke 6:47-48 (ESV)

Here is a short but extremely helpful video by Pastor Paul Wolfe of Banner of Truth

What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building. – 1 Corinthians 3:5-9 (ESV)
