All Creation Sings

We had a wonderful time at our annual men’s retreat this past weekend thanks in large part to Pastor Ken and all the ladies in the kitchen. It was once again great fun, fellowship and food… both physically and spiritually. This year’s topic was on the doctrine of God’s creation. The speaker, Richard Fangrad from Creation Ministries International, did a wonderful job teaching us how important this foundational truth is to our faith. And as he spoke about different scientific concepts and theories, I was reminded of something. That in the end, all truth is God’s truth.

Which means that whether it’s Newton’s law of gravitation, Einstein’s law of conversion of mass-energy, or Bernoulli’s law of fluid dynamics (all of which are named after the various people who discovered them) the point is that it was Jesus Christ who created each of the laws to begin with. From physics to biology, from math to philosophy, any truth we discover in each of these areas of study ultimately belong to Christ because He is the creator and sustainer of all things. As Abraham Kuyper, the former president of the Netherlands, once said:

When Jesus looks at his universe from his exalted throne at the right hand of the Father, and he sees the great galaxies whirling in space, the planets and the people upon this planet, and all the minute details of life here including the details of our individual lives, there is nothing that he sees anywhere of which he cannot say, “Mine!”

But what about Darwin’s theory of evolution? Is there any truth to be found there? We know from scripture that God created the universe by the power of His Word. And so is there any benefit that we as Christians can take from reading his work? Here is a very helpful response…

By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. – Psalm 33:6-9
